International Symposium
ECOHYDROLOGY
Vienna
October
23 - 25, 2005
FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT
==========================================================
THE AIM AND SCOPE OF THE CONFERENCE
The United Nations Millennium Development Goals underline the need to reverse the process of global environment degradation. The most vulnerable component of the global environment system is the water cycle. The urgent need to develop a scientific background for restoration measures can be fulfilled by the integration of various scientific disciplines. The Symposium is intended to integrate the knowledge of biology, hydrological processes and soil science considering new aspects, such as pollutants and waste recycling. It will be particularly devoted to the implementation of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/We and Biodiversity Conservation. The Symposium should provide a review of the recent knowledge and also stimulate the further progress in understanding and implementing the Ecohydrology Concept. The aim of the Symposium is to strengthen interdisciplinary co-operation among the scientific community in the framework of the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme (UNESCO IHP), UNESCO Man and Biosphere (UNESCO MAB) as well as International Association of Theoretical and Applied Limnology (SIL) with special emphasis on a contribution of Central European
countries.
