Scientific
seminar
in the
field of Semiconductor Physics
Topic:
Heterosemiconductor
junctions - fundamentals of modern microelectronics
Lecturer:
Professor Dr. hab. Helmut Sitter ,
Johannes-Kepler-University Vienna
Professor Dr. hab. Marian Herman , director of
the scientific center of the PAS
Number
of participants: 50,

On
5. March 2001 a seminar evening took place in the reading room of the
library in the scientific center of the PAS. It was devoted to
the presentation of the scientific career of Professor Dr. Marian
Herman. Dr. Emil Brix, Federal Ministry for Foreign affairs of
the Republic of Austria, presented Prof. Hermanīs career and
illustrated his presentation by showing the most prominent data
on transparencies. Pic. 5 shows Dr. Brix during his lecture. Subsequently,
the scientific part of the seminar began.

In the course of two lectures, each about 45 minutes, the two
speakers, Professor Sitter and Professor Herman, presented some
results of their scientific research of several years in the fields of
physics and surface textures by the example of the semiconductor
junctions of cadmium, zinc and tellurium. The perspectives of
Austrian-Polish scientific cooperation were also discussed in
regard to their application in modern telecommunication and
optoelectronics. In Pic. 4 Professor Sitter is to be seen during
his lecture.
